Eating disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic: scoping review of psychosocial impact

Abstract Background The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 drastically changed daily lives entire population. Despite being efficient helping to avoid deaths and prevent collapse healthcare system, social distancing can lead unfavorable outcomes physical mental health population, particular, those diagnosed with eating disorders. This scope review aimed analyze scientific production on psychosocial impact people disorders, subtypes anorexia nervosa bulimia. Method is a review, based rigorous method PRISMA strategy. indexed databases PubMed, LILACS, PsycINFO, Web Science, SciELO, CINHAL, Embase were consulted. After screening 387 records, 19 studies included review. Results results subdivided into four thematic categories: (1) repercussions confinement life, which impacts life are presented, such as greater contact family sudden changes routine; (2) treatment performed for underlining effects discontinuity face-to-face treatments; (3) consequences health, highlighting uncertain period psychological distress; (4) symptoms emphasizing Conclusion We concluded that uncertainties this accentuated preexisting symptoms, arousing feelings helplessness loneliness, especially because they patients who more susceptible routine fragilization support networks. Strengthening personal network important, well investing strengthening bond between members services, points future research.
